HSI Offers Free Active Shooter Training Online
To help address growing concern over the rise of active shooter events across the nation, HSI launched a free, online training experience for active shooter response. The goal is to help lower the body count by equipping people with the latest life-saving knowledge.
Why Everyone Needs This Training
The threat of indiscriminate gun violence hasn’t diminished; in 2016, some estimates count over 90 active shooter incidents to date. That’s why preparedness training efforts continue to escalate across the country.
The demand for training is real.
Why Make It Free?
HSI is an online safety training provider. Employees of the company came together last after the October 1st incident at Umpqua Community College, deciding it was time to build a training experience for active shooter response. The company also has a personal connection to active shooter violence; one of its employees is a survivor of the 1996 Moses Lake school shooting.
This isn’t a 7-minute training video, it’s a full 30-minute, interactive course. Everyone will learn something from this.
Available now, HSI’s active shooter response course is designed to promote engagement by weaving powerful testimonials with interactive learning scenarios to deliver a memorable training experience. Built with the assistance of national subject matter experts from the law enforcement community, the free online course is intended for any audience.
A lot of active shooter training takes a fear-based approach, which may obscure critical learning objectives, so our goal was to offer strategies to increase the likelihood of survival without using fear as a motivator, in a way that is impactful. We kept the focus on recent neuroscience and concepts related to situational awareness, alongside of response tactics.
