Nathan shared some insights into his career, current position, and past accomplishments below:

When and why did you decide to pursue a career in your field?

I knew what I wanted to do for a living when I was in high school. Art has been a huge part of my life and, as most, I fell in love with PIXAR. PIXAR inspired me to learn about animation, 3D animation to be more specific. I dove headfirst into learning the creative process and technology that was being used at the time to develop these incredible animations. I wanted to be able to draw something and bring it to life. So, I started pursuing a career in 3D animation. My passion and love for this art medium is why I got into the career I now enjoy.

What do you like best about your job?

I love the creative process, teamwork, problem solving and technical applications of my job. All of which are used to find a creative solution to best illustrate very complex processes, systems, and concepts.

What project are you most proud of?

We constructed custom 3D fossil fuel and combined cycle power plants for a client that included 3D models of the products sold at their plants. As part of this project, we created animation sequences that showed where in the power plants these products were used. We also developed an app the client could use on any platform (desktop, tablet, mobile device). As an added benefit, the end product was also a creative tool for the sales team to use when talking to potential clients.

How has your job changed over the past few years?

2D and 3D graphics and animation have remained consistent these past few years. However, the software is always evolving and being improved. So, keeping up with the technologies and making sure I stay current on the software is always a challenge. Also, subject matter for various projects has also become diverse. Creating training for new topics because of the project diversity keeps me on my toes.

What motivates you?

Helping others. I enjoy being able to develop creative visual solutions for a vast number of different topics. Providing SMEs with powerful visual aids for complex topics and systems in order to teach others inspires and excites me. I’m always searching for ways to create captivating graphics and animations to make the training experience more enjoyable and captivating for our clients and their learners.
