The DH Pace Company, Inc., which includes well-known brands such as Overhead Door™ Ribbon, Ankmar Garage Doors, and Door Control Services, provides a comprehensive range of door-related products and services for both new builds and existing facilities. With over 3,300 employees across 60 locations in 24 states, DH Pace continues to experience significant growth. After evaluating around 10 HSE platforms, DH Pace found that HSI was the only solution capable of integrating all their needs into one cohesive “safety centre,” consolidating incident reporting, vehicle inspections, claims management, and more into a singular platform.
DH Pace aimed to enhance their operational processes, transitioning from manually logging data through paper, spreadsheets, and emails. With HSI, they have developed 11 HSE applications, including incident management, audits and inspections, fleet management, a PPE programme, training, and even their hiring and onboarding processes.
“We would not be able to compete for large contracts without the improvements we have made as a result of implementing and using the HSI system.”
— Chris Braamse, Corporate Safety Director
Key Achievements:
- Reduced Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) from 4.8 to 1.46, significantly improving overall safety and company culture.
- Improved ability to bid on and secure more contracts.
- Reduced citations and fines by achieving greater compliance, resulting in lower overall costs for the company.
- Over 3,000 employees actively using the system, from field workers to office staff.
- Employees have more time to focus on core responsibilities instead of being bogged down by paperwork.
- Managers now spend less time on administrative tasks, allowing them to concentrate on working with customers.
- Driver Qualification File (DQF) records are now instantly accessible and fully automated, minimising downtime for drivers.
- The platform oversees a fleet of 1,700 vehicles, ensuring drivers complete their pre- and post-vehicle inspections.
- The system allows for easy identification of which drivers need specific licences or medical certificates.
Since 2015, DH Pace has seen a significant increase in labour hours, a 900% increase in the size of their vehicle fleet, and a 1,100% increase in the number of locations they operate. They also began serving larger, more complex clients with national footprints, as well as government buildings and industries sensitive to safety and security. With more employees, vehicles, and intricate clients, DH Pace faced increasing risks. As the company grew, they needed to enhance their compliance with federal and insurance regulations.
When DH Pace began their search for an HSE system, they needed something highly configurable to meet their unique requirements. The platform also needed to be flexible to accommodate the overhaul of existing programmes, with the expectation of some trial and error as they refined their processes with the new system.
“The HSI system provides data in real time, and more data than we ever had. This has allowed us to shift from assuming we were doing well based on lagging indicators, to knowing we’re doing well because of leading indicators.”
— Chris Braamse, Corporate Safety Director
