Bucket Rescue for Electrical Workers

Welcome to another HSI Safe in 60.

Knowing the proper steps for a bucket rescue can save electrical workers' lives.

If two workers are in a double bucket and one is injured, the partner in the bucket is the rescuer.

Now, If both are injured, or only one person is in the bucket, the ground worker takes charge.

Even when a truck is grounded, it may still be energized.

A ground worker must verify that the truck hasn't contacted a line and is de-energized before approaching.

Once it's safe, use the radio to call for help. Then go to the lower controls and bring the victims down.

If there are obstructions, clear them safely.

If you need to, tilt the bucket to remove the victim. Lift them out face-up so their knees bend naturally.

Check for a response: If there is none, begin CPR.

If the bucket won't lower normally, use the ground override to set the boom upright, deploy the rescue line, clip it to the victim, move the bucket aside, and lower them to the ground.
