Distracted Driving Awareness

Welcome to another HSI Safe in Sixty.

Distracted driving costs thousands of lives every year, so pay attention!

Your cell phone? Stop using it. Even if it's hands-free – that doesn't offer any benefit.

Your hands might be free, but you drive with your brain, and that's focusing on the conversation rather than the road.

If you're a passenger and the driver is using the phone, tell them to stop.

Going a few hours without checking your phone isn't going to kill you. But answering a call or text while driving, just might.

Cell phones aren't the only danger. If you need to eat lunch or put on makeup, pull over. Even a few seconds with your eyes off the road is dangerous.

At sixty miles an hour, you travel the length of a football field in under three-and-a-half seconds.

It might not seem like much time to switch songs, but a lot can change in that distance.

Until next time, remember: Your safety is worth the extra minute.
