Electrical Pole Top Rescue

Make safety a TOP priority.

In an electrical pole top rescue, always take protective precautions first. Only after that should you perform a rescue.

In any rescue, avoid becoming a victim yourself.

First, call to the victim and assess the scene for hazards, as well as the pole or structure for safety issues.

Call emergency services quickly and then look for the source of the injury.

Next, grab a hand line, position yourself slightly below them, and use a nonconductive tool to clear the victim from contact with any energized equipment. Talk to the victim and check for consciousness, bleeding, breathing, and any life-threatening injury.

If they can't climb down themselves, use block and tackle, or anchor a hand line around a secure point and wrap it around their chest so they're upright during lowering.

Next, remove the slack and, once they're secured, cut their safety strap.

Finally, lower them to the ground. Only perform CPR and first aid once the victim is on the ground.
