Personal Protective Equipment for Electrical Workers

You have the power to stay safe at work.

Your outermost layer of clothing must be rated to protect you from flames and electrical arcs.

This clothing can still transmit heat, so you still need clothes under it that won't melt or burn, like cotton and wool.

You'll often also need hearing protection, safety glasses or goggles, and a hard hat.

You need Insulating rubber gloves and sleeves if you'll be within the minimum approach distance to exposed energized conductors.

Don't use them if they have any defects that could damage their insulating properties.

Do not use the insulating equipment if any of the following defects are present: holes, tears, punctures, cuts, ozone cutting, embedded foreign objects, texture changes, or other defects that damage insulating properties.

For PPE that are subject to regular inspection, ensure they are not outside their inspection period.
