Winter Driving Safety

Winter driving can be dangerous, especially in regions where snow and ice impact travel.

Additional planning can help you travel safely in these conditions.

Check your battery, tire tread, and windshield wipers. Keep your windows clear.

Use no-freeze wiper fluid and check your antifreeze.

Buy or pack a roadside emergency kit. On longer trips you should add food, water, and medication to your basic pack.

If you get stuck and your car won't start, panicking won't help.

Stay with your car and put bright markers on the antenna or windows.

If the vehicle is functioning, check and clear the exhaust pipe and run the vehicle just enough to stay warm.

Check the weather and travel conditions before your trip.

Allow plenty of travel time, try to drive in the daylight, and let others know your route and ETA.

And of course, buckle up and use child safety seats properly.
