The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, or “Dodd-Frank,” was created as a response to the financial crisis of 2008. The Dodd-Frank Act sought to enact stricter oversight on banks, while expanding protections for consumers and taxpayers. It established a number of new government agencies tasked with overseeing the various components of the act and various parts of the financial system, including banks, mortgage lenders, and credit rating agencies.
