Distributed Control System Components
Learning objectives
- List and briefly describe plant instrumentation used to collect system parameter and equipment data to be used in a DCS
- Describe the general design and function of the following DCS components:
- Instrumentation
- Transmitters input/output modules
- Processors
- Multiplexers
- Electrical/computer buses
- Human machine interface
- Control devices/actuators
- Discuss the flow of information through the DCS and describe how that information is used to monitor and control power plant systems, parameters, and equipment
Course overview
Distributed control systems (DCS) rely on many components to control processes, equipment, and parameters in a power plant. Understanding the use and capabilities of common DCS components is important to properly operate and monitor the power plant unit.
The Distributed Control System Components training course describes the functions of components associated with a common DCS, including:
- Instrumentation
- Transmitters and input/output modules
- Processors, computer buses, and multiplexers
- Human machine interface
- Control devices/actuators
Distributed Control System Components is part of the Plant Control System training course.
