Learning objectives

  • Recognize when and why to use an AED in a cardiac emergency. Including the signs of sudden cardiac arrest and the impact of early defibrillation has in increasing survival rates.
  • Demonstrate the proper steps to operate an AED safely and effectively. Including turning it on, attaching pads, following voice prompts, and ensuring the area is safe before delivering a shock.
  • Integrate AED use with basic CPR techniques until emergency responders arrive. Learners will understand how to coordinate AED use with CPR to provide continuous and effective care during a cardiac emergency.

Course overview

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere—from the workplace to the gym—and knowing how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) can save a life. This course shows you how to recognize cardiac emergencies, safely operate an AED, and coordinate care with CPR until help arrives. You’ll gain the confidence to act quickly and provide effective, lifesaving assistance when every second counts.
