150-02 Stormwater Regulations and Pollution Prevention Plans

150-02 Stormwater Regulations and Pollution Prevention Plans

Learning objectives

  • Identify major industrial sources of stormwater discharges
  • Discuss stormwater regulations implemented by the NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)
  • Identify the components of a stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP)
  • Describe the steps to produce and maintain an SWPPP

Course overview

Stormwater runoff is generated when precipitation from rain and snowmelt flow over the ground or other surfaces such as paved streets, parking lots, and building rooftops, and does not immediately sink into the soil. As the runoff flows over the ground, it accumulates debris, chemicals, sediment, and other pollutants that could adversely affect water quality. The Stormwater Regulations and Pollution Prevention Plans training course describes ways stormwater runoff can impact the environment. It also discusses stormwater regulations and explain how to effectively develop a stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP). This course is part of the Environmental Awareness training series.
