350-10-UKEU Generator Protection
Learning objectives
- Identify common internal faults of generation units
- Identify system protection coordination requirements under Grid Codes and EU Network Codes
- Recall external system conditions affecting generators
- Define Composite Protection Systems
- Recall applications of Composite Protection Systems
- Recall the purpose of UFLS programmes
- Recall generator relay settings and loadability principles
- Identify protective relay loadability schemes
- Recall the role of System Integrity Protection Schemes (SIPS) and Special Protection Schemes (SPS) in the UK and Ireland
Course overview
Generators are susceptible to a variety of faults which require different methods of detecting and clearing. Because of the complex nature of generator protection, the Generation Protection training course covers UK and EU standards which address the detection and clearing of faults in frequency, voltage, and composite systems. Generator Protection is part of the System Protection training series.
