381-08 IRO-002, IRO-010, IRO-014, IRO-018 Reliability Coordinator Data Needs (1.5 CEH)

Learning objectives

  • Recall why Reliability Coordinators must receive specific types of data at regular intervals from the entities they monitor
  • Recall why Reliability Coordinators require appropriate and adequate tools to receive and send data to and from the entities they monitor
  • List the types of monitoring and analysis needed for system reliability
  • List ways to address quality of data
  • Recall why Reliability Coordinators must use well-defined procedures and notification protocols to communicate and coordinate activities with other Reliability Coordinators
  • Recall the reasons why it is critical Reliability Coordinators follow their prescribed Operating Procedures, Processes, or Plans when notifying and exchanging reliability-related information with other Reliability Coordinators
  • Recall why the first Reliability Coordinators to identify a potential or actual problem that requires the assistance of other Reliability Coordinators is responsible for contacting this group to determine its resolution
  • Identify the Outage Coordination Process

Course overview

Bulk Electric System conditions can change instantly. The Reliability Coordinator's job is to continuously check power transmission reliability. It must also make sure emergency actions are coordinated between the entities in its operating area and beyond. Without enough information from these entities, the Reliability Coordinator can't do its job properly. Standards IRO-002, IRO-010, and IRO-018 specify the data needed to monitor and assess the Reliability Coordinator Area. The Reliability Coordinator Data Needs training course explains what type of data the Reliability Coordinator collects from the different entities in the area. It makes sure the Reliability Coordinator has the right tools and technology to quickly analyze the data and make smart decisions. It also addresses data quality for real-time monitoring and analysis. This online course is part of the Reliability Operations and Coordination training series.
