Basic First Aid Overview

Learning objectives

  • Recall how to respond to conscious and unconscious victims, treat shock, and perform hands-only CPR
  • Recognize symptoms of and responses to respiratory distress, heart attack, and cardiac arrest
  • Identify appropriate responses to bleeding, puncture wounds, and burns
  • Recognize the symptoms of, and appropriate first aid responses to a variety of medical emergencies, such as strokes, fainting, and seizures

Course overview

In this lesson you will learn how to determine the most appropriate next steps when assisting victims with minor injuries, and how to provide appropriate care for those with serious injuries while waiting for EMS to arrive.
