Electronic Logging and Hours of Service for Drivers (DOT-5.2)

Electronic Logging and Hours of Service for Drivers (DOT-5.2)

Learning objectives

  • Recognize hours of service requirements
  • Identify how to properly log time using an electronic logging device

Course overview

The U.S. Department of Transportation creates and enforces work-hour limitations for semi- and box-truck drivers. To ensure that drivers are following these requirements, the DOT requires them to log those hours. In the past, drivers used paper logs to record how many hours they had been driving. While there are some exemptions, most drivers must now use electronic logging systems. At the completion of this course, learners should be able to recognize hours of service requirements as well as identify how to properly log time using an electronic logging device. This course is presented in both English and Spanish.

The individuals involved in the development and promotion of this course do not receive any compensation or financial benefits outside of their regular employment for their work on this course.
