MSHA Video - Traffic Control

Learning objectives

  • As a result of watching this video, the learner will be able to: • Identify rules governing the speed, right-of-way, direction of movement, and the use of headlights to assure appropriate visibility (shall be established and followed at each mine) • Recognize signs or signals that warn of hazardous conditions (placed in appropriate locations at each mine)

Course overview

Many types and sizes of vehicles travel on mine haulage roads. These vehicles are operated by drivers who travel these roads on a daily basis, or sometimes for the very first time. To ensure that these drivers have clear direction when to operate their vehicles safely, effective traffic control—most importantly signage—is an essential component of any mining operation. This lesson video covers established safety rules, signs, and signals that provide for the safe movement of self-propelled mobile equipment at the mine site.
