Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in the Workplace: Supporting Coworkers With OCD

Learning objectives

  • To explain the basics and symptoms of OCD.
  • To give tips on how to better help a coworker or direct report who has OCD.

Course overview

You might hear a perfectionist say something like, "I'm a little OCD." But comments like this make light of a serious disorder. When said in the workplace, this can be harmful to coworkers or direct reports who may be living with true obsessive-compulsive disorder, unbeknownst to those working with them. In this course, we'll talk about what it's really like to live with OCD. We'll define the disorder and share the differences between perfectionism and true OCD. We'll also go over ways to support colleagues with OCD. This includes having good communication, expressing care and support, and modifying the work environment, when necessary.
