Protecting Yourself in the Sun
Learning objectives
- Identify common hazards that could cause employees harm from exposure the sun (it's important to acknowledge that sun exposure doesn't always equal heat)
- Assess the specific risks of UV exposure, caused by the sun, that employees and coworkers may face in the workplace, (ok to mention artificial sources of UV radiation e.g., welding, UV lamps - but the focus here is sun exposure, we can develop a separate lesson for protection from artificial sources), by understanding what UV rays are, the types of UV radiation, and their short- and long-term health effects.
- Identify the various PPE employees should have available for sun exposure
- Implement safe practices and strategies to avoid harmful sun exposure relevant to specific working conditions
