Silica Awareness for Construction (CON-7.2)

Silica, or silicone dioxide, is a common mineral and major component of many types of rock and sand. It can also be found in building materials including concrete, mortar and drywall. Respirable crystalline silica, or RCS, are very small particles of crystalline silica, and are created by cutting, sawing, grinding, drilling, or crushing materials that contain crystalline silica. When employees have successfully completed this course, they should be able to recognize the health risks of exposure to RCS, as well as the job tasks that may involve exposure. They should also be able to identify standard methods for preventing and controlling silica exposure. This course is intended for construction workers who may have exposure to RCS at their worksite.
