Women and Gender Bias: Recognizing and Reporting Pregnancy Discrimination

Women and Gender Bias: Recognizing and Reporting Pregnancy Discrimination

Learning objectives

  • Define pregnancy discrimination
  • Explore laws protecting pregnant workers
  • Review how to report a case of discrimination

Course overview

For many families, pregnancy is a time of joy and celebration. But it can also be a time when women face discrimination at work. Despite the passage of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978, the Equal Opportunity Commission reports that more than 50,000 pregnancy discrimination complaints were filed in the last decade. Most companies are diligent in their practices for protecting the rights of pregnant employees, but it's important to know these rights as well as what to do if they are not respected. In this course, we'll go through the definition of pregnancy discrimination, explore the laws protecting pregnant workers, and talk about how to report a case of discrimination if it happens to you or someone you know.
