Course overview

System protection revolves around monitoring system parameters to identify abnormal and unacceptable system conditions, then taking appropriate action. These actions require specialized equipment as does isolating portions of the system under fault conditions. Depending on the type of fault, different identification and isolation methods are used. The Elements of System Protection training course explains the basic principles of system protection. It also describes basic equipment and methods used to meet protection principles. It is applicable to NERC standard PRC-001-1(ii). Elements of System Protection is part of the System Protection training series.
