701-08 Predictive and Reactive Maintenance

701-08 Predictive and Reactive Maintenance

Learning objectives

  • • Define predictive and reactive maintenance and the differences between the two
  • • Describe the following elements of predictive maintenance: Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • • Discuss how predictive maintenance works

Course overview

The previous course discussed the importance and types of maintenance in a refinery. Extending system lifecycles is emphasized to minimize costly downtimes or production losses. The Predictive and Reactive Maintenance training course explains the importance of and the differences between predictive and reactive maintenance. While many modern refineries have moved to incorporate predictive maintenance capabilities, understanding the role reactive maintenance plays remains relevant due to the unpredictability of some systems and components in harsh environments. This online course identifies and defines what predictive and reactive maintenance is. It identifies the differences between the two. It also discusses the purpose and relevance of predictive maintenance elements and technologies in modern and future refinery settings. Predictive and Reactive Maintenance is part of the Petroleum Refining series.
