Learning objectives
- Recognize a forklift, its components and features, how it is different from a car, and operator training requirements.
- Describe common forklift hazards and accidents and how they typically occur
- Distinguish between safe and unsafe forklift operations, including maneuvering the forklift, handling loads, and responding to worksite-related hazards
Course overview
This is lesson #1 in a five-part, forklift operator training curriculum. The lessons in the curriculum include Forklift Fundamentals (this lesson), Stability and Capacity, Load Handling, Safe Driving, and Inspection and Maintenance. The lesson will familiarize you with the basic forklift components, how a forklift is different from a car, and training requirements to operate a forklift. It will also describe the common forklift hazards and safe operation techniques. Specific vehicle instructions and components for your forklift can be found in the manufacturer-provided operator's manual.
