Course overview
This lesson will provide you with an awareness of the precautions and work practices required to operate a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) safely. To use a MEWP on the job, you will need to complete additional instruction and practical training specific to each MEWP type and model you will use. Note that this lesson addresses both Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards. The OSHA regulations are enforceable by law. The ANSI standards are voluntary, consensus-based, industry-specific standards. However, where manufacturers reference other standards, OSHA’s enforcement authority often extends to manufacturer equipment instructions. Note also that OSHA does not use the term MEWP in its regulations but uses the terms aerial devices and aerial lifts.
