Learning objectives
- Identify the purpose of using a respirator
- Recognize how respirators are used in the workplace, including required medical evaluations, fit testing, inspection, seal checks, and maintenance and storage requirements
- Identify when an employee should leave a respirator use area, the warning signs of an improperly functioning respirator, and the actions workers should take in an emergency situation
Course overview
This lesson will familiarize you with the purpose of respirators, the factors that influence respirator effectiveness and the limitations and capabilities of different types of respirators. You will learn the responsibilities both you and your employer have for ensuring safe respirator use in the workplace, as well as how to handle a respirator emergency or malfunction if one occurs.
