Pediatric Equipment (v2)

Course overview
A common roadblock for some EMS providers is apprehension about selecting the right equipment for a pediatric patient. Children have a unique anatomical structure compared to adults. Equipment designed for an adult may be the wrong size or scale for a child, such as too large for pediatric anatomy; provide less sensitive, and thus less accurate, measurement; or not be functional for a smaller body, leading to potential complications or harm.
Pediatric patients benefit when prehospital providers select and use equipment that is appropriately sized, scaled, and designed for pediatric anatomy. This course reviews the challenges providers may face around pediatric equipment, guiding best practices about pediatric equipment for EMS providers, and how to select the right equipment or device for the pediatric patient.
