Q & A: New to Safety - What do I do!?

Question: “I'm new in the role of safety and it's overwhelming ramping up. I'm trying to take one bite at a time but that is nearly impossible. Any ideas?”
Answer: You are not alone. Month after month, we hear a different version of your question from folks in your situation across the country. And Jill knows this, so we’ve tried to create and share as many free resources as we can to help ease the weight.
Here’s are a few ideas to get you started, okay?
- First, visit our Safety Toolbox for free webcasts, whitepapers, other assets, and safety tips videos that you can share with your workforce. You’ll find something to use there. Our Not-So-Great-Moment in Safety are fun for starting conversations and building awareness with your employees.
- You’ve got the Safety Job – Now what? Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 – This is Jill’s blog series for new safety professionals that shares a bunch of helpful links to stuff you need to get started. Generally, there’s a bunch of good stuff on the blog. Jill is our main writer and she tackles a lot of common problems.
- Probably the most helpful thing I can share is our Training Needs Assessment. This 8-minute online quiz generates a custom compliance report that can help determine exactly what training you need to offer your employees, how often you need to train, and which specific OSHA standard applies. You can have managers take it to get real specific, and even have something to show your boss to support your goals, or highlight areas of need.
