Avoiding Falling Object Hazards

Welcome to another HSI Safe in Sixty.

Heads up. You can avoid injuries from falling or dropped objects.

When your areas are clean and organized, tools and debris are less likely to fall.

When setting an object down, rest it safely on a secure surface before removing your hands. When you pick it up, position your feet shoulder-width apart.

Secure all your loads before you pick them up, even if it's just with a good grip. On a truck, use wraps or straps. When moving a load, never lift, lower, or swing the load over anyone's head.

You should also consider administrative controls such as toe boards, which are placed on the side of elevated work areas to prevent objects from falling over the edge, nets to capture falling objects, and barriers to keep people out of fall zones.

Finally, remember your personal protective equipment, especially hard hats and steel-toe shoes.
