Avoiding Slipping Hazards
Avoiding Slipping Hazards
Welcome to another HSI Safe in Sixty.
Slips, trips, and falls. They sound like minor events, yet account for 1,015 deaths in the U.S. each year.
Slips, trips, and falls can happen because of things like walkways that are wet, oily, and unmarked, uneven or damaged flooring, loose mats or rugs, nasty weather, which includes ice, rain, or snow, the wrong footwear, or poorly lit spaces.
Keep your floor clean and free of small or loose objects. Patch or secure any splinters, holes, and loose boards.
Clean up, report, and mark spills right away. But if you have to move through wet floors, add traction with an abrasive material or rubber mat.
Take short steps to keep your center of balances under you. Wear the right boots or shoes for traction and stability on the job.
A small investment can save you a lot of grief and even improve your comfort.
Until next time, remember: Your safety is worth the extra minute.
