Staying plugged in to electrical safety is essential.

Keep devices away from heat and water.

Always examine your device and its cord.

Look for corroded, loose, or bent plugs. And cracks or frayed insulation.

Don't manipulate a plug to make it fit into an outlet.

If a prong is missing, the cord should be put out of service.

Don't hold a plug or remove a tool by a cord or run one under a carpet.

If something is hot, sparking, or shocking, it's out of service.

Leave repairs to qualified electricians.

Don't overload circuits or treat extension cords as permanent solutions.

Identify electrical sources above and below you.

Keep at least 10 feet away from overhead power lines.
