Power tools are used by workers each day across this country, but not everyone has the right safety training.

And these tools make our jobs so much easier, and in many cases, we wouldn’t be able to work without them.

But some workers never receive proper training for the tools they are asked to work with, or overlook the training they do receive.

And this results in over 400,000 injuries annually.

Now, here is how these accidents typically happen:

• Inattention resulting from repetition
• An unexpected event
• Inexperience or overconfidence while using the tool

So, these are some general precautions you can take to safely operate power tools:

• Choose the right tool for the job.
• Check tools for defects before use. When in doubt, follow instructions in the user's manual for lubricating and changing accessories.
• Never carry a tool by the cord and never yank the cord to disconnect it from the power source.

• Keep cords and hoses away from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
• Be sure to find good footing, maintain balance, and secure work with clamps or a vise, freeing both hands to operate tools.
• Wear the right protective gear and proper apparel.

  • Loose clothing, ties, or jewelry can get caught in moving parts. (Voice-over Picture)
